Sydney’s oldest brewpub, The Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel celebrates Sydney’s convict heritage with an Australian spin on British-style ales, inspired by the nautical history of the world’s most powerful navy. Sandstone constructed, with a variety of boating paraphernalia, it looks like the inside of the ship, and after downing a few beers (whose recipes are so dearly loved that they’ve remained largely unchanged for almost a quarter century) it might begin to feel a bit like that, too.
You must try: The house favourite, Three Sheets.
Did you know? The semaphores (little man holding flags) on takeaway bottles and cans read out “VICTORY”, a reference to Lord Nelson’s historical win at the Battle of Trafalgar.
